The Plastics Pipe Institute's Hydrostatic Stress Board to list the minimum required strength of Plastic Piping materials determined in accordance with ISO 9080

WASHINGTON DC (December 1999) Effective January 2000, The Plastics Pipe Institute's (PPI) Hydrostatic Stress Board (HSB) will begin listing the Minimum Required Strength (MRS) of plastic piping materials determined in accordance with ISO 9080. These listings will be included in TR-4, "Hydrostatic Design Bases (HDB), Pressure Design Bases (PDB) and Minimum Required Strength (MRS) Ratings for Thermoplastic Piping Materials or Pipe." For several years HSB has provided a service to the plastic pipe industry in North America by listing the pressure rating of plastic piping materials in TR-4.

This listing of a material's pressure rating, such as the Hydrostatic Design Basis (HDB) determined in accordance with ASTM International D2837, assures the end-user that the material's stress rupture data have been analyzed in accordance with the industry standard test method. PPI currently lists in TR-4 the HDB for several plastic pipe materials and the Pressure Design Basis (PDB) for multilayer plastic pipes. For the past year, PPI has determined the pressure rating of plastic piping materials in accordance with ISO 9080. Based on this experience, PPI will now start listing the MRS of plastic materials or the Minimum Required Pressure (MRP) of multilayer plastic pipe. TR-4 listings are publicly available on the PPI website: www.plasticpipe.org. All those interested in listing their piping material's MRS or multilayer pipe's MRP should send the required stress rupture data in accordance with ISO 9080 to the HSB chairman:
