We work at the federal, state, and local levels to advance smart, science-based policies that reflect the performance, safety, and sustainability of plastic piping systems. PPI’s Government Affairs work is driven by practical policy challenges facing our member companies. These are the top issues where federal and state action directly impacts how plastic piping systems are used, specified, and regulated across the markets we serve.

• Expand Infrastructure Funding: We support increased federal and state funding for drinking water, stormwater, wastewater, natural gas, broadband, and geothermal projects. Funding should be performance-based and allow plastic pipe and conduit where it lowers costs and speeds deployment.
• Strengthen Safety Standards: We advocate for modern pipeline and building codes, science-based inspection protocols, and chemical regulations that protect public health without unnecessarily restricting safe, proven plastic piping systems.
• Streamline Project Delivery: We support reforms that cut red tape and reduce permitting delays. By speeding up approvals, we can combat inflation and lower costs for taxpayers—helping deliver high-quality projects more efficiently.
• Support Fair Trade and North American Manufacturing: We back trade policies that protect North American supply chains and keep infrastructure and construction costs competitive.
• Advance Smart Recycling Policy: We champion recycling and reuse initiatives that promote responsible lifecycle management of plastic piping systems. EPR policies should distinguish between durable infrastructure materials and single-use consumer products.
